 Rolwaling is the east-west valley below Gauri Shankar (7,145m), just south of the Tibetan border. This is an isolated and culturally diverse area, but most treks conclude their visit to Rolwaling by crossing the Tesi Lapcha Pass (5,755m) into Khumbu. Rolwaling Himal is a quiet mountain region rarely visited by tourists or trekkers, making it possible for one to savor the real Himalaya here. If one adds to this course the variant routes to Manlung La and Omai Tsho, one may truly enjoy the variety inherent in trekking.
Rolwaling and Tashi Lapcha are technically closed to foreigners. However, you can obtain a climbing permit for Ramdung or any one of the trekking peaks around here and you will be permitted to trek in this region. If you are interested in climbing, you can climb any peak around this region with a climbing permit of Ramdung or whatever peak permit you may obtain.
